Does Tempurpedic need box springs

When buying a Tempurpedic mattress do you need to get the boxes too? Most people are used to buying a mattress set which means a mattress and box spring. But with the entry of the memory foam mattress the rules have changed a bit.

A Tempurpedic mattress does not a box spring at all. In fact, a traditional “box spring” would be damaging to a Tempurpedic. Memory foam beds use what is called a foundation which is basically a wooden box that gives the memory foam mattress something completely flat to be on top of.

A Tempurpedic can be put on the floor, a flat platform bed or a wooden foundation. Any of those options are fine. You cannot put it on a platform beds that has wide spaced boards for support as this would ruin the Tempurpedic mattress in a short time.

Of course Tempurpedic wants you to buy their foundation and if you are putting out the money for the mattress it probably makes sense to go ahead and spend a little more for the matching foundation that was made to go with that mattress.

Trying to use old boxes or a cheaper off brand foundation is not the best idea when you spent so much on the Tempurpedic mattress already.
