In 1938 company exec Franklin Pierce changed the name to Serta Sleeper Products, which in turn became Serta, Inc.

During the 50′s Serta grew by advertising to the new “health concious” crowd. Serta also introduced the Sertapedic lineup, their answer to the demand for firmer mattresses. Serta also grew its advertising presence by sponsoring the Today Show, Bob Hope and the Tonight Show.

Serta grew to 39 plants and 70 million in sales during the 1960′s. Serta introduced the “pillow soft” mattress in the 70′s, which went against the popular “hard mattress” theories.
