Tempurpedic Hot or Not

sleeping on mattress

Many people believe that Tempurpedic mattress holds heat or are too hot to sleep on and can make you sweat. This is both true and false. TEMPUR material is “open cell” and polyurethane based. It is NOT latex or conventional foam. The open cell structure of a Tempurpedic mattress is breathable and promotes air flow.

Alternative sleep systems such as air, water and gel mattresses are all “closed” systems that displace pressure instead of absorbing and relieving it. On a Tempurpedic mattress, air is pushed out of the TEMPUR cells when pressure is applied. When the pressure is removed, the Tempurpedic mattress cells automatically “re-inflate” to return to their original shape. This breathable structure also promotes the dissipation of heat to keep individuals cool and comfortable.

However, the TempurPedic mattress is designed to conform to the your unique shape. In doing so it fits snugly to your body. Some (very few) people will react to this by “feeling” hot. This would be true on any sleeping surface, such as a traditional innerspring pillow top mattress, that conforms to their body. So while the Tempurpedic mattress does not actually hold heat, it can make a small percentage of people sleep hot or sweat.
