Tempurpedic mattresses are naturally treated to be resistant to bacteria’s, fungi, molds, mildews and mites. Allergies are so common they effect 2 out of 7 Americans and the number is growing. Allergic reactions are an exaggerated immune response to a substance such as dust, molds, mildews and pet dander. These substances are called allergens and are normally found indoors. Dust is the most common allergy, within every gram of dust there are up to 200 dust mites. Dust mites tend to live in mattresses and box springs with multiple layers of padding and can cause allergic reactions.
The scientific name for the dust mite is Dermatophagoides Farinae, they are microscopic and tend to live mostly in the bedroom. They feed on dead skin cells naturally shed by humans. Dust mites do not bite and are not dangerous to non-allergenic people but to others with an allergy to dust they can be quite harmful. A typical mattress can contain tens of thousands of dust mites. The Tempurpedic mattress has the anti-mite and anti-allergen treated cover that is resistant to dusts mite and other allergens. People do not tend to have allergic reactions to the memory foam (visco) in Tempurpedic products. Also, there are very few reports of problems due to mattress off gassing from Tempurpedic.
Tempurpedic mattresses and pillows are 100 percent CFC-free, which means that this product does not contain chlorofluorocarbons. Chlorofluorocarbons are compounds containing chlorine, fluorine and carbon, the use of which are now prohibited because of the effect on the ozone layer. The formula used by Tempurpedic greatly reduces dust mites and many other allergens, which may reduce allergies and asthma.
