Remove Tempurpedic Smell in Mattress and Pillows
When the Tempurpedic mattress is new it is normal to initially have a chemical smell or certain stink. The odor that comes from the Tempurpedic is because of the polyurethane based materials used in manufacturing the mattress.
There are a few ways to speed up the process to get rid of the Tempurpedic smell in the mattress or also the notorious Tempurpedic pillow smell too. I remember a TEMPUR rep long ago saying you could just take a baseball bat to the bed and beat the odor away. He was serious. He said that this would not damage the Tempur mattress and would actually break it in faster.
Another way is to open the windows and let it air out. This is obvious and many people do just that. It does not always make it go away faster and depending on the season may not be feasible for some people.
Along the same lines as the baseball bat theory is to just take off your shoes and walk up and down on the mattress to help get rid of the odor. Again, this will shorten the break in period for the Tempurpedic mattress and also force the smell out of the bed. Most folks choose this method and get a work out at the same time as memory foam is not easy to just walk around on.
The polyurethane materials are used in many of the products we use everyday. The polyurethane material is what provides the temperature sensitive conforming ability to the Tempurpedic mattress. The new Tempurpedic smell in the mattress will dissipate after a few days. There have been research studies on polyurethane and it is said to be a non-toxic chemical composition.
